The original idea behind this post was to get rid of the waste material, the city farm 50 yards from my shop always used to take them but now have enough!
They make for great BBQ starting, mulch, pet bedding etc etc, if you'd like some please come along to the shop and see what we have, I hate to see it go to waste, and when I lived in the woods every last bit was put to good use.
HI Barns

forgot about the "how" part of the question :-)
ReplyDelete#1 chips from using an axe to rough out the shape of the spoon from the wood blank
#2 chips from the spoon knife or twca cam used to form the inside of the spoon bowl
#3 shavings of a knife to shape the handle of the spoon… on one of your tapered octagonal handled spoons
cheers again

Nothing to add, Trevor took all the words ;)

1. The first idea
ReplyDelete2. The execution
3. Perfection
Hey barn, you could try growing edible fungi from them, that's what I'm currently trying to achieve with my massive pile of discarded wood shavings... trying to transform them into chicken of the woods
ReplyDeleteAlmost!
ReplyDeleteThe first is definitely from an axe but no one has got the other two, come on green woodworkers??!!! I'm enjoying this I'll definitely have to put some more photos up once you've got these.
The second one comes from a draw knife me thinks.
ReplyDeleteThe last one looks like shavings from a spoke shave, the middle from a hand plane of some sort?
ReplyDeletelast one is from the pole lathe
ReplyDeleteYes last one is shavings from Apprentice making ladles on the spoon lathe with a hook tool, and the second is drawknife shavings from making a spoon rack.
